The narrator of this interview, Dr. Thomas Grant Irons, is a pediatrician and hospital administrator in Greenville, North Carolina. This interview gives insight into his family history and his parents' (Dr. Malene Irons and Dr. Frederick Irons) medical careers. Dr. Irons shares his memories of his relationship to his parents and how his participation in their practice influenced his career choice. Includes commentary on the article "Early Women Physicians of Eastern North Carolina: Lula Disosway, MD, Malene Grant Irons, MD, and Isa Grant, MD" from the May/June 1990 issue of "North Carolina Medical Journal". Also gives insight into the use of sulfa drugs, the discovery of penicillin, the history of the Medical Arts Clinic and Pitt County Memorial Hospital on Fifth Street. The information contained in this interview is relevant to the 1900's-2000.
